Small-Production White from Fantinel
La Roncaia was created by the Fantinel Family in partnership with the late Tibor Gal (of Ornellaia winemaking fame) with a mission to produce traditional Friulian wines of the highest distinction and to express the potential of the native varieties in the Colli Orientali del Friuli zone.

Movia Tokai Gredic 2007
Tocai Friulano is Friuli's ambassador to the world, an offbeat indigenous varietal that has earned a place in diverse wine circles alongside its more ubiquitous cousins. The ancestry of the grape is widely debated, with some claiming a relation to Furmint, which furnishes Hungary's Tokaji. ("Friulano" was added to the name Tocai to avoid confusion with this famous dessert wine; eventually the wine may simply be labeled "Friulano" based on arrangements set by the EU.) Others point to the alias Sauvignon Vert or Sauvignonasse to back their assertion that Tocai is related to France's Sauvignon Blanc. Also grown in various regions outside of Friuli, this ancient varietal is at its best in the Collio, where it is traditionally served with antipasti of smoked prosciutto and speck. This masculine white grape offers a range of characteristics brought out by the varying microclimates and producer styles, which range from crisp to a creamy texture and from smoky to peppery. Floral notes, hazelnuts, and pears on the nose. Firm but balanced acidity animates tropical fruit with fresh baked bread, new oak, and some spice. A smooth, fresh wine that captures Tocai's signature mineral finish and Ales' dynamic touch.

La Roncaia Friulano 2007
Crafted from one-half grapes that are fresh and one-half grapes that have been raisined, this wine is a deep straw yellow, and that cheery color is echoed in its nose that suggests wildflowers, hay and almonds. Smooth and well-balanced on the palate, La Roncaia’s Friulano ’07 displays notes of citrus, tropical fruit and nuts, and its slightly bitter finish makes it an astonishingly food-friendly wine.

La Roncaia Friulano 2009
Deep straw yellow in appearance with a nose that suggests wildflowers, hay and almonds. Smooth and well-balanced on the palate, displaying notes of citrus, tropical fruit and nuts, with a slightly bitter finish. These characteristics, typical of the Friulano grape, are enhanced by half the fruit being allowed to dry partially before vinification.

La Roncaia Picolit 2008
Regular Price: $418
Friuli’s Picolit may very well be the panda of the wine grape world. Poorly pollinating, prone to flower abortion, something of a cult object and awfully cute, Picolit has simultaneously been poised on the brink of extinction and been the unwitting recipient of extreme popularity for a number of decades. La Roncaia’s ’07 Picolit is a golden child and offering loads of honey and blossoms, with a balanced sweetness on the palate.
