Legendary Barolo: Paolo Scavino
Great investments, Scavino's wines are meant to be savored at a later date, with the exception of his Barolo Bricco Ambrogio, which is more accessible now. Whether you want to enjoy now or cellar for later, we hope you enjoy our specially-picked selection from Scavino's 2006 vintage.

Paolo Scavino Barolo 2006

The estate's Barolo normale, this wine has many surprises in store as it opens up over the next decade. Relatively deep in color, this wine is dry with full tannins and all the typical pieces that make a Barolo: the perfumes, high acidity and firm tannins. Following fermentation, the wine is racked into French oak barrels for one year, then moved into casks for the second year of aging. This Barolo demands some time but will reveal itself completely when ready.

Paolo Scavino Barolo Bric del Fiasc 2006

From one of Piemonte’s most highly-esteemed vineyards, the 2006 is dramatic, as are all the Barolo Bric dël Fiasc from Scavino. A subplot of the Fiasco cru, Bric dël Fiasc characteristically carries the most formidable structure of Scavino’s Barolo: an austere sensibility coupled with imposing power. This state of profound tension is ameliorated only through an extended period of cellaring, which typically transpires over 20 years. Thus, the 2006 is expected to mature from 2016 through 2031.

Paolo Scavino Barolo Bricco Ambrogio 2006

If you crave an accessible Barolo, this is your wine. Upon tasting, you'll get the impression that Scavino wants you to recognize now, rather than later, just what a special thing he's got going on here with Bricco Ambrogio. A well-balanced Barolo courtesy of the aging methods-one year of aging in barrique, followed by one year in cask-this wine is full of deep aromas of dark fruits and licorice on the nose and palate, as well as tar, truffle and mushroom.

Paolo Scavino Barolo Cannubi 2006

Planted in 1946, the Cannubi vineyard benefits from its southern exposure, gray silt-sand and marl soils and an altitude of 290 meters above sea level. Fermentation takes place in steel rotary vats with aging in barrique for 12 months and an additional 12 months in French casks. The wine is then aged one more year in bottle before it’s available. This medium-bodied Barolo has a finely-woven bouquet of soft perfume and fruits and is rich on the palate with a silky finish. This wine can live through 2031.

Paolo Scavino Barolo Carobric 2006

First debuted in 1996, this multi-vineyard wine represents a selection of grapes from each of Scavino’s esteemed crus: Rocche di Castiglione, Cannubi and Bric dël Fiasc. In its early stages, it is generally reticent on the nose, yet more demonstrative on the palate. The Carobric is a vibrant wine that builds into a tannic ending.
