Spring Dinner Pairings
A Spring Dinner is one of the most memorable ways to usher in the New Year, and one of the best ways to ensure its success is through careful attention to the meal. The combination of the food and the wine must be harmonious. With this in mind, we've put together a menu of some of our favorite Spring Dinner specialties paired with a few of our favorite wines.

Gravner Ribolla Gialla Anfora 2003
Aromas of pineapple, dried apricot and vanilla bean. Full-bodied and fruit forward, almost a red wine in structure. Ribolla Gialla is one of Friuli's oldest indigenous vines, and enjoyed the distinction of serving as the drink of choice—under the name Rabiola del Collio—in the Republic of Venice. While virtually unknown to a modern audience, Josko Gravner authored a movement dedicated to its reclamation, endeavoring to comprehend this difficult varietal's character and nuances over a period spanning two decades. His work with Ribolla represents the achievement of which he is most proud. In fact, this wine and the black Pignolo grape constitute the future of Gravner, as he plans to work exclusively with these two varietals following the 2010 vintage.

Movia Veliko Bianco 2004
Each vintage of Movia's 'Big' or 'Great' white—Veliko Belo in Slovene— is a blend of varying proportions of Ribolla, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Pinot Grigio and spends three years in oak. Receding gold shines in the glass. Flowery hints on the nose are followed by a robust palate of persimmon, apricot and baked apple touched by traces of cinnamon and vanilla. Elegant and age-worthy, this is a superb value.

Double Happiness Gift Basket
It isn't often--in fact, it's quite rare--that Valentine's Day and the Chinese New Year fall on the very same day. At IWM we're celebrating with a special "Double Happiness" package of Movia Lunar 2007 and Tua Rita Giusto di Notri 2006. Not only are these two wines from of Itay's top producers, but their productions and packaging hold a special significance as well. The Tua Rita, a red from Sicilia, is decorated with an orange and red label (the colors of luck and good fortunate) while the Movia Lunar, a white wine from Slovenia, is made in accordance with the movements of the moon and the principles of Feng Shui. It pairs well with traditional New Year's dishes like fish maw and dried abalone. Double your happiness in the New Year!

Movia Lunar 2008
Experience what happens to Friuli’s long-lived white grape in the hands of the world’s leading biodynamic producer. Ribolla Gialla has long been revered by the iconoclasts of Friuli. In Lunar, a pure Ribolla, the dynamic and accomplished Ales Kristancic of Movia desired to be totally hands off, allowing the wine, in a manner of speaking, to make itself. This by no means implies that the wine is simple to produce, as such a natural approach requires a command of both traditional and biodynamic principles: Ales ages the wine on the lees inside small Slavonian oak barrels for over two years without racking, a viticultural decision that produces the wine’s unusual coloring. With its ciderlike hue, this striking beauty calls immediate and dramatic attention to its esoteric nature. Compelling and utterly unique, this is the essence of Ribolla—raw and resplendent—pure wonder under the Friulian moon.
