Inhabited by a mere 800 people, Ortezzano hosts this wine festival each September offering visitors the possibility to view the way wine was once made, to sample local dishes, dance the local dances and, of course, drink the wine of local producers over a 2 day period.

Since the 1950’s, this northern Italian town hosts a series of tastings paired with local dishes. Producers from the areas of Annia, Aquileia, Grave, Isonzio, Latisana (all wine areas within the region) participate in a contest to see which wine is the best.

The festivities last approximately one week.

Known also as the sexiest wine in the world, Barolo’s history dates back to the 1800’s (although the first document regarding the Nebbiolo grape was recorded in 1268) and was originally a sweet wine. This festival is one of the most important as it celebrates the birth of one of the most famous wines in history.
