The Medieval town of Ortezzano is located on a hill top with an 11th century castle tower overlooking the valley below. Inhabited by a mere 800 people, Ortezzano hosts this wine festival each September offering visitors the possibility to view the way wine was once made, to sample local dishes, dance the local dances and, of course, drink the wine of local producers over a 2 day period.

This year marks the 60th Wine Festivity of Bertiolo in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Since the 1950’s, this northern Italian town hosts a series of tastings paired with local dishes. Producers from the areas of Annia, Aquileia, Grave, Isonzio, Latisana (all wine areas within the region) participate in a contest to see which wine is the best.

Held in the town of Vignanello, Lazio, the 40th “Festa del Vino” offers those who attend some esquisite local wine and cuisine. The three favorites among these D.O.C. wines are the Rulliano, Domnico (both reds) and the Greco di Vignanello (a dry white). Wines may be tasted also under the supervision of the local sommeliers. The festivities last approximately one week.

“The king of wines, the wine of kings” is celebrated over a two day period in its very own town of Barolo in northern Italy. Known also as the sexiest wine in the world, Barolo’s history dates back to the 1800’s (although the first document regarding the Nebbiolo grape was recorded in 1268) and was originally a sweet wine. This festival is one of the most important as it celebrates the birth of one of the most famous wines in history.

I Giorni di Bacco represents the coming together of producers in the region of Tuscany from the territories of Montepulciano, Montalcino, Chianti, Val d’Orcia, Maremma Toscana and Costa degli Etruschi to display their wines and local dishes to the pubblic. These two weekends have been organized and are hosted by the young generation of local Tuscan wine makers.
