A massive powerful wine that is at its heart an Amarone, this '05 Valpolicella holds the kind of mystifying complexity that will strike to the heart of any wine connoisseur. Crafted from raisined grapes as an Amarone is, this wine has serious heft. Blackberries, blueberries, violets, leather, underbrush, tar and crushed rocks work in glorious concert, but this wine is so dizzying in its complexity that notes are hard to parse. Structured and balanced, this Valpolicella is drinking now and for the next decade, probably longer.
