Antinori Tignanello 2007

In many ways, Piero Antinori’s Tignanello represents the very best of the Super-Tuscan movement: a commitment to honoring traditional methods of winemaking combined with a desire to innovate when innovation creates a better wine. Grown in the Chianti Classico zone, and comprised primarily of Sangiovese (85%) and small parts Cabernets Sauvignon (10%) and Franc (5%), the Super-Tuscan Tignanello tends to
the more Tuscan end of the spectrum, even if it and its maker are pretty much synonymous with the Super-Tuscan movement.

Grattamacco Bolgheri Rosso Superiore 2007 750ml

The difficult truth first: this wine could drink now, but it’s better left to sit. Next, the easy part: when you do open it, you’ll be rewarded with an elegant gentleman of a wine. Harmonious, balanced, and with structure to last for another decade, the ’07 Bolgheri Superiore retains its trademark opulence. Rich, dark plums and red cherries rest on a foundation of cedar, herbs, coffee beans and, eventually, a touch of new leather. It’s a bespoke suit of a wine, one where the tailor’s hands have fit the lush fabric into a classic profile. Drinking 2011-2027.

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Ornellaia 2007

This wine shows an inky, dark purple color, with its initial aromatics that expand to further illustrate ripe, dark fruit. Rich cassis, minerals and French oak are immediate on the palate, while the superb density of the fruit tames the tannins. Cellaring will proffer a melding that promises balanced integration and deeper complexity. This wine should be cellared until 2016 and maturing will continue through 2026.
