A Tale of Two Brunellos
Though the wine started with just one maker, today there are hundreds of Brunello producers. At IWM we carry only a handful. We carry Biondi Santi, the estate that gave birth to Brunello, and we carry Soldera, the acknowledged Master of Brunello. We also carry the two producers that I'm delighted to offer today, Il Palazzone and Cerbaiona, two great Brunello makers who work with Brunello's history—not against it.

Il Palazzone Brunello di Montalcino 2000

Under the right guidance, Brunello exhibits an austere character and possess the ability to age beyond the standard timeframe. The 2000 Brunello shows a light garnet and presents a nose of ripe plum and earthy notes such as bay leaf. Some baking spice and chocolate aromatics subtly emerge over a palate that suggests imminent drinkability because of its gentle tannins and silky finish. This wine is showing well now and maturing will continue through 2017.

Aromas of mocha, raspberry and tobacco. Rich on the palate with balanced acidity. Filled with flavors of red cherry and spice.
HK$780.00

Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino 2004

A Cerbaiona Brunello can be described as intense ruby in color with brilliant hues that add dimension. The palate shows very ripe red fruit with spice and minerals, full body and firm flavors. Fleshy, concentrated fruit and well-evolved tannins glide into a long, delicious finish. The 2004 is incredibly expressive with black fruit, anise and smoke flavors. Case production hovers around 1,700. This wine should be cellared until 2014 and maturing will continue through 2025.

HK$2,360.00
