Bruno Giacosa Barbera d'Alba Falletto Superiore 2005
A masterful Barbera, deep and brooding with a complexity not often encountered in this workhorse grape of Piemonte. Full of flavors of dark fruits and spices, this Barbera has more in common with various Super-Tuscan wines than what one normally expects from Barbera. Aged for one year longer in oak than Giacosa's regular bottling. Characterized by a distinctive aroma or tar and blackberry. A full-body wine with velvety tannins.

Domenico Clerico Barbera Trevigne 2008
Highly concentrated, while carrying the signature dried cherry and raspberry fruits of the grape, underlined by an earthy spice dimension. These aspects emerge more fully with time in the glass, revealing an unexpected depth and concentration.

Giacomo Conterno Barbera Cascina Francia 2007
Although many contemporary productions of Barbera deliver a high level of fruit extraction and evidence significant oak influence, Conterno’s bottlings eschew such modern extremities. The ’04 exhibits impeccable balance and arguably delivers a benchmark performance. It delivers Barbera’s trademark acidity, a feature that renders it the classic companion to pizza.
