Sandrone showcases his astute grasp of Nebbiolo through an esteemed cuvée Barolo, Le Vigne, a veritable benchmark in its own right. Le Vigne is made from the Ceretta, Vignane, Merli and Conterni vineyards. Its conception is intimately connected to the philosophy and principles informing a blend's composition; each of the vineyard's subplots is harvested and vinified separately, and then this protocol is followed by an individual aging period of one year.
About the Producer
Luciano Sandrone is often labeled a modernist because he opts for shorter macerations, the use of some new oak, and shorter aging requirements for his wines. However, that is only half the equation. Here, the craftsman respects tradition and only incorporates aspects of modern technology and technique to showcase the utmost potential of his precious grapes. His magical juice does not rely on 225-liter barriques for style (he prefers the 500-liter French oak barrels). Luciano’s training comes from a traditional background at the historic Marchesi di Barolo estate. It is here that he earned and saved enough to purchase his own tiny estate. Now his boutique-style winery with choice plot locations produces some of the richest, most polished Barolos in the region. |
