About the Producer
A genuine Tuscan persona and the splendor of period artwork—including the villa’s original frescoes and later antique pieces—fashion the prevailing atmosphere at Villa Mangiacane, a renowned 16th-century villa situated in Chianti Classico. This magical estate spanning 300 hectares of vineyards, olive groves, and forests, was built by Cardinal Francesco Maria Machiavelli and owned by the aristocratic family of Mazzei for over three centuries. In 2000, it was acquired by Glynn Cohen, who initiated a period of revitalization dedicated to the production of quality wines and the celebration of art.
A visit to Mangiacane immerses the aesthete in a virtual art emporium, as the villa showcases artwork representing several mediums and movements. Appropriately enough, some believe that Michaelangelo actually contributed to the villa’s original conceptual design. The oenophile may also follow her bliss in this realm, a place where guests need answer only to the pleasure principle. While the estate will attend to all of the logistics of your winery visitations and advice on those not to miss, one may commence a tasting itinerary at Mangiacane’s wine cellar prior to taking flight (quite literally—as you may tour the various wineries by helicopter) into Chianti Classico’s central zone, comprising the towns of Greve, Radda, and Castellina. |
